Now, before you all think that malt powder is a gourmet ingredient or something you have never heard of relax because malt milk powder is available in every grocery store. You might wonder what it is so below is a short description of what is malt milk powder.

What is Malt Powder?

Malt powder gives shakes and chocolates a creamy texture and an amazing flavor. There are a lot of malt powder chocolates out there and they are all incredibly delicious and I am sure you have enjoyed snacking on them. My eggless malt powder chocolate chip cookies are incredible as they have malt powder in them and have a delicious flavor, but you might wonder what malt powder is.

Malt Powder is an ingredient in malted milk powder and is made of malting wheat to be precise barely. The process involves soaking barely in water for it to germinate, letting it sprout, and then letting it air dry to halt the process. This short germination process helps develop certain enzymes in the barely which breaks down its starches into sugar which gives the malted powder its sweetness. Malted milk powder has the malted powder, flavoring, milk solids, and salt which gives it the iconic earthy, sweet, and almost nutty taste.

What’s the difference between malted powder and malted milk powder?

So malt powder should not be thought to be malted milk powder, malted milk powder is an ingredient we all are familiar with since our childhood we have all indulged in chocolate malted milk balls and malted milkshakes. The truth is that Malted milk powder is made from malted barley, wheat flour, and condensed milk, and is often mistaken as malt powder, but real malt powder does not contain any milk.

How can malted milk powder be used?

Besides milkshakes, chocolate, and candies malted milk powder can be used to make crepes, ice creams, waffles, pancakes, cakes, doughnuts, cookies, and cream Brulé. It can also be used in quick bread as the lactose (milk sugar) in the milk solids of the malted milk powder helps in making the bread brown and flavorful. But malted milk powder can be used in savory dishes too it can be used in sauces and could be sprinkled on breaded chicken or fish. It has a deep nutty flavor so it goes well with peanuts, miso, and mushrooms.

If using a generous amount of malted milk powder in a dessert you might have to balance the sugar and the salt. As malted milk powder is sweet if you make a dessert using it you will need to work on the amount of sugar you add in and the salt.

If you are still confused about malted milk powder let me, put it more simply it’s the white Ovaltine, Horlicks that you get in the market. There is a chocolate-flavored one too, but the pure malted milk powder is the white one.

So here is the recipe, make it, eat it enjoy it, and let me know how it went.

Ingredients

Instructions

  1. Take the flour, Ovaltine powder, baking powder, and salt. Mix it well. Now take the cold butter and with a hand mixer give it a good whisk till the butter softens a little. Add the sugars and whisk till you have a clumpy mixture. Add the vanilla and mix don’t overmix here. Add the flour that you have set aside and mix with a silicon spatula add the chocolate chips mix and then add the milk a few tablespoons at a time till you have a nice dough. Don’t use all the milk pour the milk slowly once you have a slightly sticky dough that can easily be formed into 6 balls, preheat your oven to 180 ° C and butter and line a baking cookie sheet. Till the oven warms up please put the cookies in the freezer for at least 25 minutes. Now once the oven is preheated take the cookies out of the freezer and bake for 15 to 16 minutes till the edges are brown. Cool them on the sheets for 15 minutes and then cool on a wire rack. Enjoy once cooled.
